TREE PRESERVATION

Bend's character is profoundly influenced by its natural beauty. When public concern arose about unfettered building and the loss of trees, especially mature trees, City Council convened a committee of diverse perspectives to advise how to balance tree preservation and growth.

2023 TRUAC
Formation

In 2023, the Bend City Council created a temporary committee to provide guidance on tree regulations in new developments.

 

The Tree Regulation Update Advisory Committee was tasked to provide recommendations.

Council goals included a review of current tree regulations and consideration of amendments to balance community concerns and housing production.

Committee members represented neighborhood districts, arborists, developers, architects, the public, and other city advisory groups.

All TRUAC meetings were open to the public.

 

City Council Approves
Tree Code Changes

In June 2024, the Bend City Council approved amendments to City Codes in order to regulate the preservation of trees and when they can be removed during development.
