Bend’s character is profoundly influenced by our natural beauty. As Bend grows, especially with pressing housing shortage, tension has arisen between preserving trees at large developments & unfettered building. City Council, responding to residents concerns about loss of trees, especially mature trees, convened a council of diverse interests & perspectives to advise how to strike a balance of healthy growth & tree preservation.

TRUAC Background

The Tree Regulation Update Advisory Committee or TRUAC, was created in 2023 to recommend potential new solutions that balance preserving trees with building needed housing.
